這本書多次被票選入圍AAR的百大羅曼史，可惜沒有出版中文版，雖然對五百多字的原文書很懼怕，數度提起勇氣要閱讀卻作罷，但是喜歡這位作家卻沒有新書可讀狀況下還是讓我咬牙閱讀。
書比想像中好看，不愧為goodreads評鑑4.14的好書，雖然故事很長，但是看得滿過癮的，書的背景發生在諾曼人征服英格蘭的時期，故女主角為被征服的薩克遜人，男主角自然是征服者諾曼人。
在故事一開始時占領女主角家園的是男配角的人馬，男配角覬覦女主角的美貌想要強暴女主角，可是被女主角的媽媽下藥阻止了，男配角以為自己已經吃到女主角，女主角也一直以為自己已經被強暴了，女主角的媽媽也不告訴女主角真相，這是什麼奇怪的媽媽?
後來男主角上場接收女主角的家園及床，男主角一開始就表明不會對女主角忠實，不會花錢在女主角身上，也不會為女主角柔情，可是實際上心還是被女主角攻陷了，慢慢的做了以上的事情，甚至想娶女主角為妻，可是女主角這時卻懷孕了，不知道孩子的爸是誰，女主角硬要生下小孩的堅持在兩人之間產生了巨大的摩擦，最後媽媽才出現證明女主角沒有被男配角強暴。
喜歡男主角對女主角的寵愛，是征服者但是對女主角並沒有很壞，雖然很瞎的連女主角是不是處女都分不出來，但是在書中大部分的表現都滿不錯的，算是那個年代的好男人了，五星推薦!!
