Four gorgeous nighttime predators bid farewell to bachelorhood in this uneven quartet of sensual paranormal romances. Surprisingly, Feehan's "Dark Hunger," depicting the romance between an immortal Carpathian and a spirited shape-shifter, is the weakest of the lot. Feehan struggles with the short form; she tries to cram everything she would normally put in a novel—multiple conflicts, a full cast of characters and an abundance of love scenes—into a mere 100 pages, and the result is a frenetic tale lacking emotional intensity, plausibility and focus. The stories improve progressively, however, with Shayne delivering a tightly wrought werewolf romance in "Awaiting Moonrise" and Holly offering a sexy, shockingly kinky romance ("The Night Owl") between a vampire and a smalltown baker. The most inventive of the four is "Seduction's Gift." Knight imagines a magical world where Magi, immortal champions of humankind commonly referred to as "witches" and "vampires," wield their powers to save humanity from itself. These immortal champions include the legendary King Arthur, Guinevere and the hero of this tale, Lord Lancelot du Lac, assassin and High Court seducer. All the stories suffer to some degree from an overabundance of lust and sex and a dearth of emotional connection, but fans of the genre aren't likely to mind.

四個短篇故事裡，我最愛的 ( 當然，當然 ) 是 CF 的 Dark Hunger（這還用說嘛，偶這個死忠粉絲是當假的喔
看過黑暗系列並且效忠黑暗王子麾下的，才會對這故事感興趣啦

Dark Hunger 雖是「黑暗系列」之一，但它與前面十幾本的人物並沒有直接關聯（前面十幾本的主要人物或多或少都相關，無論是朋友還是血緣關係，每一集裡都會有幾張熟面孔 串場）。這個短篇與本月底剛剛出爐的 Dark Secret ，是以五個住在南美洲的阿 C 族兄弟 ( 這五兄弟是當年追隨黑暗王子 Mikhail 的父親的 Hunters 們之一 ) 為主角。五兄弟裡的兩個已經亮相，其他的三個也會在不久的將來登場。
Dark Hunger 女主角 Juliette Sangria 和黑暗系列前幾本的女主角最大的不同，在於 Juliette 的「品種」。她不是普通人也不是噬血維生的 Carpathian 族女性，而是屬於變形族 ( shapeshifter。和 CF 的另一套「豹人」系列裡的女主角是同類型的 )。此外，Juliette 也比其他女主角的性經驗豐富 ( 這是阿官由她和同族的表姊交談的內容抽絲剝繭推敲出來的
)。
她那個被綁架的妹妹 Jasmine 遠不及英雌救美男的 Juliette 強悍；但安靜害羞總比歇斯底里好。但我猜她在未來幾本書中應該還會出場。那個表姊我倒是比較期待......

Emma Holly 的 The Night Owl 是我的次愛。（不過許多讀者和書評家皆認為 The Night Owl 是四個短篇裡最棒的一個故事
）
女主角 Mariann O'Faolain 樸實又可愛，而且還有烘培美食的天份。算是她 “地主” 的男主角 Bastien Luce 如何能抗拒得了她鄰家女的親和魅力？雖然拙於表達，但他的心可是很快地作出抉擇。
Mariann 的前夫真是個有眼無珠的大笨蛋 ( + 大混蛋 )。Mariann 雖然心地善良性情好，但可不是軟腳蝦；她對那個偷了她老公又想偷她祖父的獨門烘培妙方的壞女人發飆的模樣，真有夠酷！
但 Bastien 的身分，可遠不只是客棧的擁有人而已。Mariann 哪想得到像她這麼平凡的、又離過婚的女人，會有當一族之后的富貴命呢？更別說可以就此長生不老.....

我 對於我的新歡之一 Angela Knight 的那篇 Seduction's Gift，感覺五味雜陳。短短一百頁不到，出場人物甚多，劇情複雜得讓人頭昏眼花。喜歡亞瑟王和圓桌武士的童鞋，可能會對 Angela Knight 女士將他們都變成吸血鬼的創作方式很不滿意；偏愛怪力亂神的童鞋，會覺得故事的構思設定既新穎又特殊，令人讚嘆。梅林法師在這個故事裡的重要性可不祇是呼 風喚雨而已......
Seduction's Gift 人物劇情會如此複雜，當然與它是系列作脫不了關係。既然這是系列的第一部，自然肩負著替未來鋪路的重責大任啦！
但 劇情複雜不會嚇倒我。讓我無法快樂吞嚥的，是男主角 Lancelot ( 賓狗！沒錯，就是亞瑟王的第一武士蘭斯洛爵士！) 的 ( 絕對職業化的 ) “Seducer” 身分。我試著不去想他在女主角 Grace 之前總共 “gifted” 了多少女人。雖說這是他的工作，但還是讓我消化不良。
令我倒彈三十尺的，還有他私生子的數目－－好像有好幾百個。
)
( 呸呸呸，就算他已經活了一千六百歲又怎樣？一千六百歲的古人就應該藉用私生子的數目來標榜他的男性氣概？SK 的 Dark Hunters 們幾乎各各比蘭斯洛老，可是就沒看見人家養了一窩小 X 崽子
最 令我毛髮豎立的，是 Lancelot 和女主角 Grace 的「祖母」摩根娜女神的詭異曖昧關係 ( 更甭提他和亞瑟王老婆通姦的事實。在書裡描述：即使已經過了十六個世紀，亞瑟王依然耿耿於懷 )。還有就是亞瑟王和他的妹妹－－半個妹妹－－摩根娜曾發生的亂倫，讓我感到作嘔，雖然在他們成為情人的時候彼此都不曉得有血緣關係....
四個故事裡以這篇 Seduction's Gift 的鹹濕度最高，性愛場景可以媲美春宮電影。所以還是那句警告：心肌無力或信奉素食主義的人最好別碰。

《補充》
系 列的第二本 Master of the Night ( 已在幾個月前問世 ) 故事比 Seduction's Gift 更複雜。今年五月即將出爐的 Master of the Moon 我稍微有點裹足。男主角是仙國國王，聽起來很正點不是嗎？是啊，如果不是他曾經有過四任還是五任妻子，而且正積極尋找他的第五還是第六個仙后，還有他對那 個當了他一百多年情婦的女人感情頗深 ( 在 Master of the Night 書裡最後，她為了他而犧牲生命 ) 的話，我會很期待這個仙王的故事

Hot Blooded 的四個短篇故事裡我最不偏愛的，是 Maggie Shayne 的 Awaiting Moonlight。劇情單調，人物互動和對白都吸引不了我，草率的翻完，在其他三個故事都讓我印象深刻的時候，唯獨這個故事一看完馬上就忘得差不多了。

很難想像.....寫出我十分喜愛的「薑餅人」(The Gingerbread Man) 這本書的人也是她。
