這本書是Jennifer Blake相當早期的書，出版於1977年，但是在goodreads裡的分數卻高於目前出版的所有中文版，我在作者評價裡有稍微提到這本書，現在把這本書再補充評論。
這本書是用Patricia Maxwell為筆名寫作的，所以風格偏陰鬱懸疑，劇情是女主角Catherine被男配角陷害帶去一個男人物色混血情婦的舞會裡，男主角Rafael為了復仇誤以為女主角是男配角的quadroon情婦而強暴了女主角，因為多年前男配角在男主角"走路"的期間勾引了男主角的quadroon情婦RURU，後來RURU被男配角拋棄自殺身亡。
Rafael發現女主角不是男配角的情婦之後，基於榮譽強迫Catherine和他結婚，Catherine婚後被帶到男主角的種植園，發生一連串奇異的事件。
書滿好看的，但是壟罩著低氣壓，女主角對男主角所知不多，婚後慢慢發現男主角的過去，我討厭男主角有quadroon情婦這種設定，常看紐奧良背景的讀者應該知道，quadroon情婦意味著男主角未過門的媳婦，通常是男主角的初戀，牽扯相當的深，不是可以輕易拋棄的過去，對於鰥夫不能的我不喜歡這種設定，所以書裡RURU一直陰魂不散讓我很反感，雖然男主角不愛她。基於這點我扣個兩分，因為這是我的雷
，沒有這個雷點我會給這本書5分，不過喜歡哥德式風格和不介意這種設定的同學倒是可以一讀。
