Lorraine Heath跟我頻率挺合的，看她的書，我總是又哭又笑的。
剛開始看的時候老讓我聯想起Julia Quinn 的《When He Was Wicked》,因為都有類似的情節，男主角認識女主角的時候，她已經與男主角的堂兄訂婚，他只能把感情埋在心裏。
三年前Walfort侯爵因為馬車失事而下肢癱瘓，為了安慰妻子Jayne，他提議妻子與堂兄Ainsley公爵“代孕”，於是Jayne來到Ainsley的鄉間小屋住一個月，順理成章兩人fall in love，Jayne也順利懷孕了。就這麽結束？NO，太簡單了！精彩的在後面呢。在此我就不劇透了，只說說配角Walfort侯爵吧。Walfort算壞人嗎？大概不算吧，就是一個懦弱的男人而已，他的懦弱害慘了兩個女人，差點連累這兩個女人的孩子。他與Marie相愛，但Marie是窮人，而他急需錢，要找個有嫁妝的人結婚。他癱瘓後Jayne不離不棄，他又對Jayne產生了感情。Jayne在Ainsley的鄉間小屋住了一個月後回來，他感覺到了妻子的感情產生了變化。那一段心情描寫得很好，他既為妻子找到幸福而高興，又為她不再忠於自己而難過。不過看到後來他承認在這一個月期間還把情婦和女兒接來同住，又讓人挺氣憤的。他到底愛誰？其實他誰也不愛，只愛他自己。這個人物，讓我想起來小時候偷看家中老人的“古書”，幾千年的故事裏，太多這種優柔寡斷的書生，不同的只是中國的男人們，娶妻目的除了傳宗接代，還有代替自己侍候父母的重要功能，男人們只負責請安問好，至於父母的日常起居生活，乃至生病了熬湯煎藥，都由於妻子來料理。可憐的中國女人！
有個小疑惑，Seymour家怎麽會同時又有公爵又有侯爵，英語的cousin真讓人不解，真是一表三千裏！我看完書一直在想 Ainsley公爵和Walfort侯爵到底是怎麽關系的cousin，都姓Seymour，那就是堂兄吧？但是Walfort侯爵死後，繼承爵位的又是另一個cousin，不解
