Re: Not Quite a Husband
The marriage between Leo and Bryony was over before it even began. There is a lot of hurt and betrayal on both sides that they need to work through.
Bryony is a lady doctor - which is unusual at that time (1800's). She is shy, smart and strong. She kept hidden her emotions from those who close to her. Leo is a methematician. He is very popular, good looking and briliant....
Both of them grew up as neighbour. they knew each other but not friends. Bryony was older than Leo.They never really had a chance to get to know each other but Leo had always had a fascination with her, ( he loved her for the time he could remember- 2 yrs old), that's why when Bryony suddenly asked Leo to marry her, he accepted.....
Lack of communication between two of them after they had married- had created a wall between them. Leo did not tell her that he had loved her for long time and he was nervous about marrying her ( she is to perfect to him). Another problem was Bryony found out that Leo had betrayal her just one week before the wedding. Bryony though that she can forgive him after their wedding but she can't. She turned cold and pushing him away until finally they ended their marriage.....
After 3 years, Leo & Bryony meet up again. Leo has come to India to find Bryony to take her back to England to see her dying father. Bryony found out that each time she ran further away, Leo was running right after her, he never could quite let her go.
During the journey from India to England, they both started to know each other and their love story begin..... Leo finally tells her how he was always felt about her and also tells about his betrayal towards her. He begs for forgiveness. Bryony starts to loosen up and even shares some laughs with Leo....
Their travels through India teach them about each other and help them both heal of their past failures.
ps : Leo said : " It doesn't matter where I am, I am yours....Bryony "
Leo wrote a letter to Bryony- " and that you will remember me not as a failed husband but one who was still trying, til the very end."
This whole book is a journey of acceptance, forgiveness & love. This is a story of growth and growing up. Sherry Thomas delivers a beautiful story.....It dark, bittersweet and angsty....with amazing characters who are full of flaws and that's what makes them so beautiful....
