Evie Dunmore is the acclaimed author of Bringing Down the Duke. Her League of Extraordinary Women series is inspired by her passion for romance, women pioneers, and all things Victorian. In her civilian life, she is a consultant with a M.Sc. in Diplomacy from Oxford. Evie lives in Berlin and pours her fascination with 19th century Britain into her writing. She is a member of the British Romantic Novelists’ Association (RNA).

女主角是拿獎學金到牛津讀書的第一批女學生之一，平民、經濟拮据、頭腦聰明；男主角是冰山型公爵大人——我偏好的男主角典型。

....但我一路看下來想掐死Montgomery很多次，當公爵屈服於Annabelle的魅力之後仍說了許多次類似的話，

I cannot offer you any more than I have.

完事之後很開心地說，

I will buy you a yacht. .... And I'll buy you a house.

相比之下Annabelle顯得實在太悲慘了，但她連如此悲慘的心境都自己默默擁抱著，我最期待的求婚say no場面竟然是她基於對Montgomery比山高比海深的愛而說謊拒絕，讓我一度想連她的脖子一起掐（此讀者顯然有情緒控制障礙），但她後面終於跟閨蜜們崩潰哭喊「I love him!」的場面好好笑。

雖然我很嫌棄Montgomery，但在這些鋪陳之下，他最後在眾人面前發表的演說顯得實在太太太帥氣了！兩人雨中的告白也顯得很甜（我一直在想像從他臉上滴下的雨水）。

A very clever woman once told me to think about on which side of history I want to be, I made my choice today.

 

在網路上看到有人說這本書類似傲慢與偏見，但我覺得就因為有「求婚被拒」這個橋段吧，這本比較讓我想到我的貝堡公爵。以男主角來說我個人是偏愛貝堡一百倍的，但這樣比又太不公平，畢竟貝堡有一堆失控的弟妹，整個人已經被訓練得很open-minded了😂

但即使如此，這本書劇情和文筆還是很不錯的，值得一看。
