本書描寫一對夫妻的婚姻和戀愛過程。青年美麗的大學生妮姬，在取得地質系學會後回到一生從事石油鑽探行業的父親身邊。情竇初開的她立刻和父親的合夥人，英俊熱情而富有男性魅力的史提夫陷入熱戀之中，隨即在一個月內結婚，然而美滿的生活並沒有維持多久。
